"the only ongoing concert series at a bicycle shop in the US -- if not the world!"
In 2013, The Stone Room House Concerts partnered with Bikenetic, a full-service bicycle shop in Falls Church (922 West Broad Street), to host a series of shows on Sunday evenings. We first experimented with this idea in July 2012 (written up here in the Falls Church News Press), but it was so successful that we decided to go full blast starting in 2013, and have hosted nine performances each year. You can see some videos from past performances here.
In its first year, it was an honor for Bikenetic to be nominated in the category of "Best Live Music Venue" by the Falls Church News-Press, losing out to the State Theatre.
While similar in some ways to our house concert series, the space itself is larger and more flexible than a house concert space -- we have had up to 80 guests in attendance on some occasions. We invite folks to bring drinks and snacks to share, and for some concerts we may set up tickets for advance purchase.
This is how one music blogger recently wrote about our series: "... indie folk performed in a full-service bike shop next to an Afghan restaurant. If these sound like requisite components of hipsturbia, fear not – the concert series is the perfect way (and I mean that un-ironically!) to kick back with a beer, chat with fellow music lovers, pick up the bike pannier you’ve been eyeing, and most importantly, listen to some darn good music from Stone Room’s carefully-curated lineup."
These concerts take place on Sundays at 7:30 pm (doors at 7:00 pm), with a suggested contribution is $20. And if you want to buy a bike while you're there, that can be arranged! The fine Afghan restaurant Panjshir, next door to Bikenetic, is a sponsor of these concerts.
